Some little time ago the people of Umvoti County werestirred to excitement by a reported silver strike in thevicinity. As yet, nothing has come of the matter, but thirty-five miles eastward of the town, promising gold fields havebeen discoverd, and development work is now being carriedon. The scenery in this particular part is well worthy ofmore thati special mention. At Krantz Kop, in the valley ofthe Tugela River, mountain piles, some thousands of feet inheight, and densely wooded, can be seen in all as the eye can reach, to the eastward antl
