This sort of potato has a remarkable red peel, caused by the red vacuoles of the inner epidermis cells at the bottom of the picture. This certain potato tuber was exposed to sunlight for some weeks and shows several green chloroplasts in the cells in addition to lots of starch grains. Microscopic contrast method : Differential interference contrast. Magnification about 90x when printed 10 cm wide.
