This is a mechanical calculating device and results agree closely with those given by Babcock's formulas. The lactometer (Quevenne) reading, the temperature (Fahrenheit) and the per cent of fat in the sample of milk being known, the device is operated by setting the central slide so that the lactometer reading is opposite the 60 degree (tem- perature) mark. The true lactometer reading is found opposite the line indicating the observed temperature of the milk.
