Kobodaishi Shugyozou is sometimes simple referred to as "Kukai" he was a monk, scholar, poet, artist, and founder of the Shingon school of Buddhism in Japan. In front of the statue is a stone prayer wheel Rinneto. This wheel represents the cycle of life and rebirth - reincarnation.
