PYLORIC STENOSIS, X-RAY
Stricture of the lower part of the stomach, the pylorus, is called pyloric stenosis. This condition can be inherited or acquired, for example when caused by an ulcer or a tumor. Pyloric stenosis causes severe digestive disorders (pain, vomiting). An x-ray study with a contrast agent is used to confirm the diagnosis and visualize the hypertrophy of the sphincter. Hypertrophy of the muscular sphincter requires surgical treatment. In case of stenosis due to ulcer, etiological treatment (antihistamines) may be sufficient. Tumors require surgical removal.
