Thereare numerous applicants for these, and a local inquiry has been held asto a scheme for building 50 cottages at Twynrodyn, at an inclusive costof p^8,ioo. The surveyor has also been instructed to secure a site for50 houses at Aberfan. Closing orders have been applied for in respectof 100 houses unfit for habitation. The chief interest in the Penywern cottages lies in the fact that theyhave realised the ideal of the ;^i5o cottage. This sum includes notonly the erection of the cottages, but provides for the making of streetsand back passages, drainage, and salary of the clerk of works. It isanticipated that there will be no extras in carrymg out the are 23 cottages to an acre, including streets 36 feet wide andback passages.
