Calyx of two broad obtuse glumes; of two palea, exterior one of basal floret compressed,broad, and obtuse. Base lobcd, destitute of lateral ribs. Innerpalea membranous, having two green marginal ribs. Lengthfrom twelve to eighteen inches. Hoot joerennial, fibrous, andtufted. Flowers at the end of June, and ripens its seed in July.
