Surrounded by 15th and 16th century merchant houses, Rotuses aikste is Kaunas Old City main square. The Roman Catholic Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul is seen at center. Located at the confluence of Lithuania's two largest rivers - Neris and Nemunas - Kaunas is the country's second largest city. The city has many universities, museums and churches, besides a medival castle, whose ruins, partially restored, are today an important tourist attraction and a site for events and concerts.
