Mitral valve annuloplasty. Artwork of the heart's mitral valve and the coronary sinus (purple), with a stent (metal rod and mesh) inserted into the latter to correct leaking of the mitral valve. This procedure is known as an annuloplasty. The positioning of the coronary sinus on the heart relative to the mitral valve allows the stent to reinforce the sinus and push the flaps of a leaking mitral valve closer together. Here, the coronary sinus is in its uncorrected (uncontracted) position. For a sequence of images showing this, see images C016/6522 to C016/6527.
