Detroit Bulk Storage loads an Algoma Transport freighter with petroleum coke along the Detroit River at where it is stockpiling the material before shipment June 6, 2013. Petroleum coke was stored uncovered along the Detroit River from 2012, until late 2013 when the city ordered the toxic piles removed after a public outcry over environmental concerns. Residents in both Detroit and Windsor were worried about possible health and environmental risks associated with storing the pet coke uncovered, close to the river.
