Shoulder and back anatomy. Artwork of a rear (posterior) view of muscles (red) and bones of the shoulder and upper back. At lower centre is the latissimus dorsi muscle of the back. Most of the muscles of the upper back and shoulders have been removed, revealing the ribs, the vertebrae of the thoracic and cervical spine, the clavicle (collar bone) and the scapula (shoulder blade). The humerus (upper arm bone) is at left. The three muscles shown at upper left with the scapula are (from top): the supraspinatus, the teres minor, and the teres major muscles. The cartilage of the shoulder joint is also shown.
