Alexander Siloti, pianist and conductor, was born on the estateof his father, near Charkov in South Russia, on October 10, 1863. Hestudied music at the Moscow Conservatory with Sverev, NicholasRubinstein (1875-81), Tchaikovsky, and Hubert. In 1880 he playedwith success at a concert of the Imperial Music Society, Moscow.
