He was not so successful in this instance, so he sold his leaseof premises to the Western Union Telegraph Company for $3,500,00, making theventure a profitable one in the end. In 1905 Mr. Blanchard became convinced hisbusiness might prove more remimerative if he were to open a place equipped witharm chairs. Having made the acquaintance of Mr. John Porter, a man who for sometime had been occupied in the chair lunch business, and having found him to be a manof honor and integrity, Mr. Blanchard entered into partnership with him and they. Six of them are locatedin New York City and the others are in New Haven, Hartford and Waterbury,Connecticut; in Fitchburg, Massachusetts ; in Portland, Maine, and three in Worces-ter. The firm of Porter & Blanchard holds much central real estate property. Mr. Blanchard is a member of Morning Star Lodge, Ancient Free and AcceptedMasons; Worcester Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Hiram Council, Royal and SelectMasters; and of the Massachusetts Consistory, Knights Templar. In the First BaptistChurch of Worcester, he is chairman of the committee on music. He is a diretcor inthe Worcester Chamber of Commerce, the Park Trust Company; treasurer of theWorcester County Farm Bureau, member of the Commonwealth Club and a life mem-ber of the Worcester Country Club.
