The largest and best while, night-blooming variety; flowers of the largest size; long, pointed buds, on strong stalks, open- ing horizontally; leaves deep green, with serrated edges. This is one of the very choicest Water Lilies in cultivation, and indispensable in a moderate collection. The flowers are a brilliant rosy red, a most pleasing color by artificial light, pro- duced on stout stalks standing above the water, and are from ten inches to twelve inches across. This plant grows in vast quantities in the plains of lower Egypt during the time the land is under water.
