Britain's Turkish community calls for an end to support for the PKK in march though London - at Piccadilly Circus

The PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) receives considerable support from Kurds in Britain, allegedly including some from organisations receiving government support here. This is perhaps unsurprising given the long history of repression of the Kurds in Turkey. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organisation by the USA, NATO and the EU, and around 5000 people from Britain's Turkish community marched through London to call for Britain to be more active in opposing the PKK. Marchers included some Turks and there were banners stating that Turks and Kurds were banners. However other banners carried images of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, who also brutally suppressed several Kurdish revolts and bombed Kurdish civilians.
