It was named for the founder, Dr. C. , who owned the land on which it issituated. The platting of the site, and thepromoting of its settlement were handled bythe Marengo Improvement Co., which wascomposed of Dr. Thomas, John Wanamakerand ex-Gov. Stone of Philadelphia, the early settlers were the ThomasChapman, Fox, Buck McNeill, Anderson,Moseley, Hollis, and Golden families. It is on theJackson military road, and Jackson and hisarmy halted at the spring which is now withinthe limits of the town.
