Cholecystokinin crystals, polarised light micrograph. Cholecystokinin (CCK) is a hormone responsible for promoting the digestion of fats and proteins. It is secreted in the duodenum (the uppermost and shortest part of the small intestine) and stimulates the release of digestive enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the gallbladder.
