The winds have picked up today as Storm Caroline approaches the UK. Here in the Lake District we should be spared the worst of it, that is hitting the Northern Isles, but it is still going to be pretty miserable. I stopped off at Blakeley Moss Stone Circle to get a photograph in the murk as it is a pretty atmospheric and bleak kind of place that just seems to suit this weather! The stones were re-set (in concrete) in 1925 and no one knows if they are in their original positions, or indeed, if it isn't a modern "fake". My hunch - looking at the position of the circle in the landscape - is that it is a genuine pre-historic monument, although we will probably never know if it was restored faithfully to the original.
