The impressive Peveril Castle sits on a rocky spur between the Peak Cavern gorge and Cave Dale in Castleton Derbyshire. William Peveril was granted this site by William the Conqueror in order to administer the king's lead mining and hunting interests, at the centre of the Royal Forest of the Peak.
