In bringing them togetherbetween the rectum and vagina the operation does not make an anatomical restora-tion of the pelvic sling, but it does to a large extent make a physiological restora-tion of the sling, in that the sling is shortened by this approximation of its sidesbetween the rectum and vagina, and the slack is thus taken up.
