These are brought together l^etween the rectum and some of these tissues normally lie between the rectum and vagina, but most 498 LACERATIONS AND FlSTULiE of them pass back of the rectum (Figs. 489, 493). In bringing them togetherbetween the rectum and vagina the operation does not make an anatomical restora-tion of the pelvic sling, but it does to a large extent make a physiological restora-tion of the sling, in that the sling is shortened by this approximation of its sidesbetween the rectum and vagina, and the slack is thus taken up.
