HIP OSTEOARTHRITIS, DRAWING
Degenerative arthritis is an articular ailment characterized by degenerative lesions along with proliferation of bone tissue. It usually affects those joints in which the mechanical constraints are greatest : the knee, hand, hip and spinal column. This ailment generally develops after age 60. Three times as many women as men are affected. X-rays are used to assess the seriousness of the lesions. Pictured here : degenerative arthritis of the hip.
