Some of themost direful corrup-tions in religion, liter-ature, commerce, andpolitics are traceable toit. No passage in the sacred Scriptures hasbeen more frequently misinterpreted andmisused than the one which we are aboutto consider. The Revised Version reads: Love cov-ereth the multitude of sins. Every per-son who is acquainted with the Greeklanguage knows that this is a better trans-lation. The word which in the old ver-sion is rendered charity, means love—love in its most comprehensive is only one expression of love of which we are about to speakbelts the globe. While it regards especi-ally the household of faith, it is con-cerned for the welfare of all men in allthings. Or all the spiritual treasures love is thegreatest.
