Orchid flowers (Ascocentrum miniatum). The flower clusters (three seen, orange) are lying on a tree branch. Like many orchids, this one is growing on a tree: it is an epiphytic orchid. The leaves of the orchid are seen at top right. The Ascocentrum orchids are found in the cloud forests of Asia, in places like the Himalayas, Borneo and mountains in the surrounding islands. There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers.
