Pyogenic (pus-forming) granuloma of the eye in a young patient. A granuloma is a mass of granulation tissue that is produced in response to chronic infection, inflammation or a foreign body. Granuloma formation may arise as a consequence of surgery, caused by a reaction to the sutures or other items used in surgery. Granulomas are composed of small blood vessels & connective tissue & comprise a normal stage in the healing of a wound.
