At distances fromthe north shore of from 200 to 600 feet rock was encountered at depths of 5 and 6feet, but it could not be said that this was in place. At distances from the shoreof 800 to 1,400 feet, however, flat-lying limestone was struck in every hole at depthsvarying from 13 to 17 feet. The limestone on ^Maidmans creek isthe nearest outcrop to the mouth of the estuary: it is distant 11 miles from SandyIsland and 22 miles from the outer Imoy. Considerable piles of loose limestone on the shore near the mouth of Doctorscreek may indicate limestone in place near the surface of the ground. The placeis not within reach of boats at present on account of the shallowness of the Avaterin front. At no point in estuary is there sufficient loose rock to be of any servicefor purposes of construction. 1913 IXYESTIGATIOXS AT .TAMILS BAY, 39. Landslides on Shores of Estuary.
