A cannon in the fortifications in the port of Nafpaktos, Aetolia-Acarnania, Greece

The beautiful town of Nafpaktos Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Sterea. Its long history and tradition is evident in its narrow cobbled streets and the castle, which is unique in Europe. It is mostly known in Europe from the Battle of Lepanto in th 16th century, where the Christians fought against the Ottomans. In the background is the Rion-Antirion, or officially the Charilaos Trikoupis bridge, named after the statesman who first envisioned it. It is the world's longest multi-span cable-stayed bridge and crosses the Gulf of Corinth near Patras, linking the town of Rion on the Peloponnese to Antirion on mainland Greece, near Patras.
