Big-horn (Ovis canadensis).—The big-horn reaches its higheststage of development in the Rocky Mountains, and in South-EastKootenay is still quite plentiful. There used to be a good number inparts of the Gold Range, in the Okanagan, and on the eastern slopeof the Coast Range, in the Ashnola Mountains. In both these districtsthey have been so decimated that there has been a cose season Ashnola District there has been a large increase, and an openseason may be allowed in a year or two. In the Lillooet District, also on the eastern slope of the CoastRange, there is a fine big sheep-range, and they are found there inlarge numbers. In this district, owing to their range being a beautiful 61093. 39 open and generally rolling countrv, sheep-stalking is one of the finestof sports. During the past few years nearly everybody hunting inthat district got good rams. While the Lillooet sheep are said to be the same as those in theRockies, they, and also the Okanagan and Ashnola sheep, in a minordegree, dififer in size and the shape of their horns, having a muchgreater spread and finer points with smaller base measurements, almostsimilar to the Stones sheep, whereas the Rocky Mountain sheepshorns are more massive and compact; the latter have their habitat onmore rugged mountains, and are aften found on the same range as themountain-goat. Black Sheep (Oris stonei).—This northern variety of sheep isprobably the most abundant of all our sheep, and is very easily obtainedin Cassiar. From Telegraph Creek there is a fair sheep-range a fewmiles away, but the best sheep-grounds are some little distance this district the
