The area of the inlet holes being large, the en-tering velocity of the air is low and consequently the largerparticles of dust are allowed to settle out before the airpasses through the felt. It is claimed that the air enter-ing the cleaner does not strike directly upon the filteringmaterial and that the dust which collects on the surface ofthe felt is shaken off by the vibration of the vehicle onwhich the cleaner is used.
