Village and Castle of Montsonis in Foradada, Lleida province, Catalonia Spain. The current complex, close to the ruins of the medieval enclave, was built on the old wall from the seventeenth century. From the family belonging to the minor nobility of Urgel, in charge of the custody and defense of the castle, a lineage arose that took the name of Montsonís, from which the surnames of Monsonís and Monzonís arise. The same belonged to the knight of San Juan from Hospital Pere de Monsonís, commander of Barcelona in 1295, Arnau de Monsonís, Castilian from Culla (Castellón) in 1260, who sold the Campanar tower in Valencia, the Castilian Gerb Arnau de Monsonís in 1310, the major commander of the Order of Montesa Bernat de Monsonís or Bernardo de Monzonís in 1330, and the Governor General of Urgell Berenguer de Monsonís also in 1330, with a branch in Villa Iglesias (Sardinia) in 1324.
