Booth runs off the stage at Ford's Theater and Lincoln slumps forward in his booth at top right.
On the night of April 14, 1865 (which was Good Friday in the Christian calendar), well-known stage actor John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Abraham Lincoln, who was in a booth with his wife at Ford's Theater. Lincoln died early the next morning. This illustration, in a book that dates to 1876, shows Booth running off the stage and Lincoln slumping forward in his booth at top right.
