Hampstead Heath is a national park located in North London, just four miles from the centre of London. It is owned by the Corporation of London, which also maintains most of it. It covers 791 acres within two London boroughs: Camden (681 acres) and Barnet (110 acres). It contains has 25 main ponds, some set aside for swimming, model boat sailing and fishing. There are areas of unspoilt ancient woodland, bog, hedgerows, and grassland. A part of the Heath has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest by English Nature, the smallest one in London. It has been awarded the Green Flag Award for the seven consecutive years. The Kenwood area to the north east of the park is maintained by English Heritage. It is generally known for open air concerts and the Iveagh Bequest Kenwood House that sits on a hill overlooking the Concert pond. The house contains well known paintings by Rembrand and Vermeer, among others. It is open to the pubic. Works by Henry Moore, Barbra Hepworth and Dodeigne can be found in the grounds of Kenwood House and vacinity. The Heath is policed by its own small police force, the Hampstead Heath Constabulary.
