Orchid flowers (Orchis boryi). One of the petals (white and pink-spotted) of each flower is a specialised structure called a lip. This attracts pollinators and provides them with a landing platform. The Orchis orchids are from temperate regions of Europe and Asia. They are terrestrial orchids (ones that grow in the ground). There are more than 30,000 species of orchids worldwide, many of which are grown as ornamental flowers. Photographed in the Peloponnese area of Greece.
