As far as maneuvering of the ship is concerned, the chief officer is not in a positionto give any information, except that from the time the steam line was carried awayup to the time the vessel surrendered she was going ahead at full speed. She swungsomewhat to port after the main steering line was carried away. When the chiefofficer left the quarter-deck the submarine was shelling the port side of the leaving the quarter-deck I reported to the captain that the gun was out of.
