Caption: Ganden, TAR, China - Jul 2001. A monk circumnabulating the mountain ridge bhind Ganden Monastery in Tibet. One of the most influential monasteris in the country, and the centre for politics, Ganden was razed to the ground by Chinse forces during occupation in the 1950's. A part of the monastrey has since been rebuilt nd it continues operating as a religious institution, however under the watchful eyes of the Chinese; Ganden being the site of several bloody Buddhists believe that mountains tops are home to spirits; consequently adorning them with prayer flags and mani stones which pronounce the prayer, Om Mani Padme Hum (Jewel in the Lotus) to appease the spirits and pay homage to Buddha.
