Jesus Christ Religious crucifixion art; Christmas Christian sculpture church display in Chester, Cheshire, Three giant metal sculptures named Golgotha made from steel girders and thousands of wire coat hangers have gone on display at the Cathedral. The religious figures are the work of British artist and Turner Prize nominee David Mach. A specialist team took five days to install the silver figurative artwork in the cathedral's 14th Century south transept. Sculptor Mach, , said: “The spiky sculpture is dramatic. It is an epic, violent scene.”
Calvary, Golgotha, and also Gagulta, was, according to the Gospels, a site immediately outside Jerusalem's walls where Jesus was crucified.
