I am unable to explain why did not get the same results withthe use of the sectional expander thatwere obtained at these shops. I have metothers since that article was written whosaid that they did obtain similar results, but not quite so considerable a move-ment of the flue sheet as we found Li>C)intii<tr Enifijittring A detailed description of this device isnot necessary; the sketch tells thestory. It will be noticed that the ram andformers are made of grooved wheels, andthat the required angle and length of bendare regulated by set screws on guide rodsABC. The ram is operated by an 8-inchair piston, and is controlled, both up anddown, by a four-way cock. The exhaustair is used to blow out scale and dirtfrom the pipe as shown at A^. For the information of the operator, there is a schedule worked out to cover allkinds of pipe, which is printed and postedin a convenient place, that shows what ex-haust nozzle to set end of pipe on, andwhere to put formers and set screwsABC. We know from experience that this ma-chine bends the pipe to a perfect standard, both to shape and length, and does the The holes in the flue sheet were notcalipered after being drilled, as I do notpresume that the
