Plaque recording an International incident in Park Street, London. SEE DESCRIPTION FOR FULL DETAILS.

This plaque in Park Street on London's Bankside commemorates the beating of an Austrian general Julius Jacob von Haynau by a group of draymen from the nearby Barclay & Perkins brewery in 1850. Haynau was infamous for his temper and ill-treatment of women during the European revolutionary movements of 1848 and became known as 'The Austrian butcher' and the 'Hyena of Brescia'. When Garibaldi visited England in 1864, he asked to visit the brewery to thank "the men who flogged Haynau".
