The cychc flower has three sepals, three petals alternating with these, three to six stamens and usually (two or) three free carpels. Sepals and petals are yellow in the widely distributed C. aqiiatica (Mexico to South Brazil) which has proterogwous flowers, white in C. caroliniana (south-eastern United States) and red-violet in the other species. A few ovules are borne on the sides of the carpels. The fruits are indehiscent pods which contain.
