Canal de l’Ourcq

The view taken in 1828, shows the Canal de l’Ourcq which was built by Napoleon but proposed by the scientific Brullée to the academy to lead the waters of the Bevronne to Paris. He passed the work to Solage and Bossu who were induced by Napoleon to pass the idea to the government. The canal starts in Ourcq and takes in the Grisette, the May, the Therouanne, and the Beuvronne. The canal passes Marceuil, Estampes, Lizy, Grisy, Meaux, Villemoie, Charmatré, Claye and Sevran and terminates in the basin of La Valette. The image was drawn by J Nash under the direction of A Pugin and engraved by R Wallis
