The Wheel and cycling trade review . confessthat I was much impressed with the fittings, and so was every man in the trade to whomI spoke. One of the most interesting tools in theshow is a wheel-building rrachine exhibitedby Churchill, the Birmingham toolmaker. Inthis machine the rim is put on a plate orchuck, from which radiate clamps whichseize the rim concentrically to its centre andin such manner as to be clear of the spoke-holes. The hub, with spokes threaded, isplaced in the centre and the free ends of thespokes are engaged with nipples set throughthe rim. When all are engaged a flexible keyworking on the same principle as the flexibledrill is placed in contact with the nippleheads, and in less than a second each is firmlyscrewed into its bed. The immovability of therim insures a correct wheel and equal ten-sion on each spoke. It is not such a labor-saving tool as the hub-forming machine, butit serves its purpose equally well. Freaks are, as usual, in evidence. Hereis one, the brilliant conception of some one .Jf^O. who fixes a Crypto gear to the rear wheel ofa badly designed safety and kicks backwardlike a tickled is supposed to be a new type of frame
