Not for use in Television Not for use in Television Aranesp injection to treat anaemia. Male patient with chronic kidney disease self-administering the anaemia drug darbepoetin alfa, marketed under the name Aranesp. This drug is a synthetic protein that stimulates the production of red blood cells (erythrocytes, erythropoiesis). It is used to treat anaemias (deficiencies in red blood cells) caused by chronic renal failure (as here) or chemotherapy treatment. Aranesp is also used illegally in sport to increase an athlete's blood oxygen levels and therefore enhance performance.
