From an educational standpoint the time spent there was in- valuable and the social hour following was thorouglily enjoyed, too. The meeting was called to order by President Merritt. A motion was of- fered from the floor that all business be laid aside and that J. Horace Mc- Farland, speaker of the evening, pro- ceed with his lecture. Mr. McFarland lived up to his reputation and gave a most interesting talk, illustrated with his valuable slides. His subject was, "The Kose in ; It gave to one a wonderful idea of the great prog- ress made in the development of the rose and the many and varied ways of using this beautiful flower for deco- rative purposes, not only applying this to the large rose gardens of the wealthy, but also to the crowded back yards and ugly board fences of the city. After Mr. McFarland's lecture, refreshments were served by the entertainment com- mittee. Preceding the lecture, a dinner was served at the Hotel Rcnnert in Mr. McFarland's honor. The following members of the trade attended the din- ner: J. J. Perry, William fiuschardt, Charles Feast, William J. Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Johnston. Mr. and MEMBER F. T. D. FLOMUST GEO.
