Correillo La Palma


With the name “Correíllo”, the steamers and motor ships that since the end of the 19th century covered the inter-island maritime transport lines between the Canary Islands, transporting passengers, cargo and correspondence were popularly known. The history of postal steamers in the Canary Islands begins in 1888 after the award of these lines by public auction to the Compañía de Vapores Interinsulares Canarios, a newly formed shipping company and a subsidiary of the English password Elder Dempster & Co. That same year they joined the services The first inter-island steamships, baptized with the names of "Viera y Clavijo", "León y Castillo" and "Pérez Galdós", which were later joined by others such as "Almirante Díaz", "Mogador", Congo ", etc. ., which covered the Canary routes until the beginning of 1912.
