Original caption: 48-1793: Looking west (in opposite direction from same point as previous photo) along road to Bourne Field and Submarine Base showing new building being constructed just back of the utility pole marking; existing 36-foot width of R/W in foreground on right. This emphasizes urgency of legislation to provide a more adequate building set-back line control. (A 45-foot minimum width for ultimate R/W development was agreed upon by the inspection party as desirable and was recommended in order to avoid such encroachments in the future.) Note the pedestrian problem here, requiring provision of adequate sidewalks for the safety of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The curve to west around heavy growth of trees on left needs to be eased and sight distance improved. Provision of building set-back lines will aid in this objective for safety of travel between the airfield and the city. Visible on the hilltop in the distant background (elevation 350 feet) just behind the top of the pole is the Contant Club, a landmark on the horizon readily seen from any part of the city of Charlotte Amalie.
