King Penguin - (APTENODYTES PATAGONICUS) colony in Salisbury Plain a vast plain washed out by the Grace Glacier on South Georgia and South Georgia's largest elephant seal nursery. Salisbury Plain, a vast expanse of glacial outwash plains, 50km from the western extremity of the island. Formed by the retreat of the Grace Glacier, and now covering over 2km², it is the largest area of level ground at South Georgia – and the perfect spot for a huge king penguin rookery with an estimate of around 60´000 pairs. It is one of South Georgia´s largest elephant seal breeding population haul out, along with fur seals spread out along the beach.
