As we continued our marchand approached the Potomac River, we obtained glimpses,with finally full views, of the several important defensivepoints and heights about Harpers Ferry, which at this timeand occasion were beautifully and brilliantly illuminated frombase to top by the numerous camp-fires which were keptblazing thereon during the night and early morning truly presented a scene of grandeur and beauty—the
