The outside is coveredwith interlacing circles, sharply cut, enclosing figures of various animalsand birds in high relief. Many of these, as was usual in similar decorationsof the tenth and eleventh centuries, are fabulous or grotesque; but amongthem are an elephant, caparisoned, a stag, hares, and eagles.
