It was destroyed by the Saracens in 890, and the pre-sent edifice erected in 999. Here in 1388 the treaty was con-cluded by which the County of Nice was annexed to the Duchyof Savoy. The chateau of St. Andre (Restaurant, closed insummer) which is reached in 4/2 hr. more, erected in the 17thcent., is now unoccupied. It stands on an eminence, at thebase of which (}/t hr. walk) is the grotto les Cluses de St. Andre,or rather a natural bridge over a brook, crossed by the avenue of cypresses leads from the chateau to the grotto(15 min.).
