The Windows Section, Arches National Park

In the "Windows" area of Arches you can see many stages of each rock formation. Arches are formed in Entrade Sandstone. the rock was deposited here as sand more than 150 million years ago. over time it was buried by new layers, which hardened into rock, finally shaped by the powerful forces of erosion. It is hard to define whether a "window” is type of arch or just another word for one but, the general consensus is that an arch or window has to be at least three foot wide. Both are distinct from "bridges" which extend over running water.
