Wild geese and the geese (kari) in flight across the face of the moon were among the most popular motifs during the 1830s when demand for natural history prints reached a peak. The season depicted here is the eighth month, the time when migrating geese return; the regularity of their migration made geese a suitable symbol of enduring reliability.
